"Agriculture is the dominant discipline of many Malaysian universities. I hope they can cooperate with our agricultural discipline to jointly promote agricultural development." China is a large agricultural country. Prof. Zhang Chengxia, Dean of the School of International Education of Guizhou University, hopes to cooperate with the best universities in agriculture in Malaysia.

Li Jianqing, a teacher of Malaysian Multimedia University, targeted at the cutting-edge information technology. He said that creative multimedia is the development trend in the future. They have explored and developed new majors and also want to find cooperation with "like-minded" Chinese colleges and universities.

But which university has the best agricultural discipline? Which university has the same demand for innovative discipline cooperation? Which foreign university's exchange mode is more suitable for its own institutions?

Due to poor communication and asymmetric information, the process of identifying potential partners for cooperation is often difficult. The sub forums of CAECW, small-scale and in-depth institutional networking, etc. provide a platform and opportunity for domestic and foreign institutions to understand each other and cooperate accurately. This is a major feature of CAECW.

Intentions of cooperation were fully discussed and cooperation agreements were successfully signed.

On July 22, 2019, three or four hours after the opening of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, 18 cooperation agreements between more than 10 Chinese and Malaysian universities have been signed during the Cooperation Dialogue between the presidents of Chinese and Malaysian universities. In recent years, with the deepening of China-ASEAN educational exchanges and cooperation, educational exchanges have become more diverse. According to their economic and development needs, colleges and universities in China and ASEAN countries explore cooperation modes from many aspects such as academic accreditation and schooling, so as to promote bilateral or multilateral education cooperation and achieve complementary advantages and win-win cooperation. Comply with Market Demand and Cultivate High-end Talents

Thai student Luo Junyong won the first prize of the fourth "Chinese Bridge" speech contest for middle school students. Because of this competition, he came to Southwest University of China to continue his study. The "China hand", who is proficient in Chongqing dialect and loves Beijing Opera, returned to Thailand's Chinese school to teach after graduation.

In recent years, Chinese has been more popular than English in ASEAN countries. Chinese international schools are in urgent need of Chinese teachers. Moreover, professionals who understand Chinese are easier to get employed and earn more.

"Foreign students in China should first pass the language test, and then they will choose international economy and trade, business administration and tourism management." Prof. Zhang Chengxia analyzed that with the settlement of Chinese enterprises in ASEAN countries, a large number of local talents who understand Chinese and have professional expertise are needed, which affects the changing trend of supply and demand in the talent market and students' career choices.

In recent years, the professional choices of foreign students are also more diversified, such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, resources and environment and other majors are gradually welcomed.

Over the past 12 years since the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week was held, more and more ASEAN students have come to China to study. In Guizhou University alone, the number of overseas students from ASEAN countries has increased from single digits 12 years ago to thousands in recent years. Last year, there were 1073 long-term and short-term students came to study at the university, of which more than 60% were from ASEAN countries. The top five countries are Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Kazakhstan and Italy.

Thailand is an important member of ASEAN countries. In 2016, the government launched the "Thailand 4.0" economic development strategy and put forward ten target industries for future development. This strategy means faster transportation facilities, more cutting-edge high technology, more people with high-level education and highly skilled workers. Wang Wei, President of the East & West Institute for International Education, believes that both the actual goal of this strategy and the demand for talents in the implementation of this strategy will promote educational development, exchanges and cooperation between China and Thailand in higher education.

Siam University in Thailand is characterized by engineering. Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit, President of Siam University believes that higher education should become a new engine to promote economic and social development, actively explore in-depth cooperation with enterprises and industry, explore cooperation with Chinese universities, and cultivate more high-profile talents for infrastructure construction and economic development of the two countries.

S&T Helps Innovating Exchanges and Cooperation

Project analysis, brainstorming, design drawing, 3D printing, making models, testing systems…. at the China-ASEAN Young Makers Competition, Fu Tian, a Malaysian student from Southwest Jiaotong University, is working with his partners to design future vehicles. Students from three different majors, colleges and universities and countries in Malaysia, China and Laos have forged profound friendship because of this project cooperation.

The innovation of an activity can deepen the friendship among young people of all countries; an innovation of educational cooperation can open a broader world for exchanges between colleges and universities. Nowadays, the development of digital economy, AI technology and remote sensing technology provides more possibilities for the innovation of exchanges and cooperation in higher education.

At the opening ceremony, Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of Education of China, proposed to promote the establishment of China-ASEAN MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) cooperation platform. Through online platform technology empowerment, knowledge can cross mountains and seas, providing a new way to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty.

"With MOOC, Thai students can learn Chinese online," Dr. Pornchai Mongkhovanit said. Yan Guohua, Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, said that with the development of science and technology, future cooperation will be more convenient. Chinese and Thai universities can use communication technology and platform to carry out synchronous classroom teaching and learning.

In the "brainstorming" of colleges and universities in China and ASEAN countries, innovation is more than that. How to establish the mutual recognition system of academic credits and degrees between colleges and universities, how to deepen the cooperation between colleges and universities and enterprises and industries, how to integrate and connect disciplines, how to efficiently cultivate compound international talents, and how to connect professional courses with the needs of the market are all topics of common concern to Chinese and foreign colleges and universities.

Through discussion and innovation, the problems have been solved one by one, and the blueprint of educational exchanges and cooperation has gradually become clear.
