Officially founded in 1954 and with the history started from 1925, Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) is one of the top 100 universities in China, and the largest university as well as the only polytechnic university across Yunnan province. President Xi Jinping praised KUST “a famous university in China” in early 2015 during an inspection tour of Yunnan province. KUST has 3 campuses, all located in Kunming, the capital of Southwest China’s Yunnan province. 

With 30 faculties (schools/colleges) and 3,900 staff members, KUST is offering over 300 degree programs at Bachelor, Master and Doctor levels to around 40,000 full time on-campus students.  In 2005, KUST was ranked by the Chinese Ministry of Education as the first Excellent University in Yunnan province for its excellent undergraduate programs. The disciplines of engineering, material science and chemistry of KUST are ranked by ESI as the top 1% worldwide.

The goal of KUST is to develop into a high level research university in the international region, to serve the sustainable development of the region, and serve the wellbeing of mankind, by offering excellent teaching, research, social services, and also by promoting culture inheritance and exchange. KUST has established partnerships with over 150 universities in more than 30 countries, for the cooperation in research, student and staff exchange, joint programs, technical transfer etc. As a representative institution of Chinese universities, KUST has been playing an important role for China in the cooperation with the neighboring Southeast Asia and South Asia countries, including in the mechanisms of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), China-ASEAN Cooperation, GMS Cooperation etc., and also in the other international and regional cooperation mechanisms including China-EU Cooperation, Asia-Europe higher education programs, among the others.

Kunming University, established in May 2004, is a comprehensive full-time University approved by Ministry of Education of China. It is formed by merging the former Kunming Teacher’s College, former Kunming University and some other schools in Kunming. Presently, the University offers the most complete array of disciplines in Yunnan Province. The university has 20 teaching units and 63 undergraduate majors, covering 11 disciplines of Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Management Science and Art, with improving the quality of personnel training and striving to provide excellent applied talents. Kunming University recruits students from 25 provinces (municipalities directly under the Central Government and Autonomous Regions) and currently has 22,128 full-time students including 271 full-time undergraduate overseas students. At present, the university has 3 master degree authorization centers and 7 provincial master degree authorization construction disciplines.

Kunming University is located in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, which is a picturesque city with spring all year round. The school covers an area of 162.6 hectare, with an off-campus internship base of 41.47 hectare. The University has signed 115 cooperation memoranda and agreements with 74 institutions and educational institutions from 18 countries and regions, has built 11 international cooperation platforms, including the China-Shanghai Cooperation (SCO) Youth Exchange Center. Kunming University devotes itself to building a first-class undergraduate university with scientific planning and steady implementation, striving for the goal of being a nationally renowned, comprehensive, application-oriented and high-level local university with distinctive features.

Lanzhou University (LZU), under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, was supported by "Project 985" and "Project 21", and selected in Double First-class (A) Program in 2017. LZU is the cradle of talent cultivation for the nation and the Western region in particular, and thus plays a strategic role in Chinese higher education. LZU is located in Lanzhou, the Golden City, as a joint point along the Silk Road. Founded in the late Qing Dynasty (1909), the predecessor of LZU was Gansu Law School which marked the beginning of modern higher education in Gansu Province and pioneered higher education in the Northwest region. 

ESI (Essential Science Indicators) published by Thomson Reuters shows that a total of 12 disciplines of LZU entered the top 1% of ESI, i.e. chemistry, physics, material science, earth science, engineering, plant zoology, environment and ecology, mathematics, biology and biochemistry, clinical medicine, agricultural science, pharmacology and toxicology, among which the chemistry reached the top 1‰.

As for April 2020, LZU has established exchange and communication relationships with 206 foreign universities and universities in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Three Confucius Institutes has been jointly launched with Tashkent State Institute for Oriental Studies in Uzbekistan, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan and Tbilisi Open University in Georgia. LZU conducts cooperatively a joint education program in information science and technology with Drexel University, USA. In 2015, University Alliance of the Belt and Road, in which LZU was one of the founding members, was established. The Alliance is currently comprised of 173 universities across over 27 countries and regions along the B&R.

Wuhan Technical College of Communications (WTCC) was founded in 1953. It is a public higher vocational college established with the approval of Hubei Provincial Government. WTCC is one of the first batch of colleges selected for the "Economic and Cultural Exchange Project" of the Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange Center under the Ministry of Education. It is the Vice- Chair of Sino-German Vocational Education Industry and Education Integration Alliance and the Board Directors of Sino-ASEAN Communication Vocational Education Alliance. 

WTCC is located in Wuhan. It has more than 16,700 full-time students and offers 45 majors. It consists of 10 schools, including School of Ship and Marine, School of Logistics, School of Transportation Engineering etc, WTCC has established more than 110 experimental and training bases on the campus, as well as more than 300 off-campus training bases with domestic famous enterprises. In its 65 years of operation, WTCC has trained over 140,000 graduates. The achievements of cooperation are abundant and talent training quality is high. In 2017, WTCC won the first prize in Hubei province in the national evaluation of innovation talent cultivation and discipline competition.

The school attaches great importance to international cooperation. In recent years, WTCC has sent more than 100 teachers to Germany, Australia, Britain and other countries to pursue overseas trainings. The college jointly develops curriculum standards with other foreign colleges and institutions. It has set up teacher training bases with vocational schools such as Pakpasak Technical College in Laos and Industrial Technical Institute in Cambodia to develop and implement professional teaching standards; It has cooperated with 7 Thai vocational colleges, including Kanchanaphisek Technical College in Mahanakorn, Thailand, to recruit international Thai students to study in WTCC. The school has set up the China-Malaysia International Class with Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to explore the "2+2" international talent training mode with 50 students; WTCC was chosen to lead the development of teaching standards of urban rail transit signal technology in China-Asean Transport Vocational Education Alliance, and its international cooperation case selected by the school won the excellent case of 2019 China (Xi 'an) World Vocational Education Conference.

Founded in 1896 as the “Imperial Chinese Railway College”, Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) is one of the earliest institutions of higher engineering education in China. It has become known as “the cradle of railway engineers in China”.

SWJTU was founded to train China’s own railway engineers. Yangzhou University (YZU) is co-sponsored by the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and the Ministry of Education of China. It is a key comprehensive university of Jiangsu Province, and one of the first authorized to grant both master’s and doctoral degrees. As a centennial institution of higher learning, the history of YZU can be traced back to as early as 1902. As a banner guiding and leading the institutional reform of China’s higher education, YZU is a merger out of six provincial colleges and universities in Yangzhou in 1992.

Guided by President Xi Jinping’s instruction of “optimizing, transforming and upgrading”, adhering to the motto of being perseverant and self-reliant, YZU’s education features a rich legacy in humanities, advantages in agricultural sciences, integration of sciences and humanities, and a harmonious development of each major discipline. Currently there are over 29,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 15,200 postgraduate students on YZU campuses, among which over 2,400 are overseas students. Among the 2,500 full-time teachers there are 2 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

YZU’s 29 colleges offer 124 undergraduate programs, covering the 12 disciplines of philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management science and art. YZU has 3 national key disciplines, 21 first-level doctoral programs, 50 first-level master’s programs, and 18 national first-level undergraduate’s programs. YZU’s overall competence as well as 7 disciplines, namely chemistry, plant and animal sciences, engineering, agricultural sciences, clinical medicine, material science and computer science, have entered ESI’s top 1% among worldwide universities and research institutions. YZU has constructed over 60 platforms for teaching and scientific research that are of ministerial or provincial level or above, including a Joint International Laboratory and a Research Center for Regional and Cross-nation Studies, and has set up close cooperation and exchange relations with more than 280 higher education institutions and research institutions in over 50 countries and regions.

Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages (ZYUFL), a full-time institute offering regular undergraduate education, is located in Shaoxing, hometown of the famous writer Lu Xun and a well-known ancient city with rich cultural heritage. 

ZYUFL has established an overall structure of majors and disciplines which revolve around a variety of foreign languages and literature, characterized by a focus on liberal arts and accompanied by a range of academic courses in economics, business management, network communication, etc. It facilitates the complementary interaction between subjects and disciplines, enabling their coordinated growth. Consequently,  

ZYUFL has won official recognition at different levels due to merits in its disciplinary construction and development. For instance, the university has been ranked in the provincial list of main subjects for its key discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature; in the municipal list for its key disciplines of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics as well as French Language and Literature, Chinese Language and Literature and Japanese Language and Literature. Meanwhile, ZYUFL’s Korean language subject is recognized as a key major in Zhejiang Province and given priority for support. Some other majors including English, French, network communication, and international trade & finance, have been honored as emerging majors with distinctive local features.

As a member of the United Nations Academic Impact, ZYUFL has made steady progress in scientific research. In recent years, the university had 23 projects supported by National Foundations, 66 programs sponsored at provincial or ministerial level, and as many as 228 items concerning educational reform won project approval at the municipal level (Shaoxing).

Ocean University of China (OUC) is a key comprehensive university under direct administration of China’s Ministry of Education. It is strong in oceanography and fisheries, and boasts a complete range of academic programs. It is included in China’s Project 985 and Project 211. It is also among the 36 A-category universities in China’s plan of building world-class universities. OUC has three campuses - Laoshan, Yushan and Fushan. The fourth campus, located on the west coast of Qingdao, is currently under construction. OUC is proud of its 3 research vessels, including Dong Fang Hong 3, Dong Fang Hong 2, and Tian Shi 1.

OUC attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation, having established cooperative ties with 270 universities and research institutes in 45 countries and regions. It is a founding member of the International Alliance of Marine-related Institutions, and it is a member of the University of the Arctic and the ASEAN-FEN. OUC works together with its global partners to build a "global marine science and education cooperation network", contributing a maritime community with a shared future. OUC has also built over 20 high-level collaborative research platforms with the United States, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, northern Europe and other countries and regions, which include the Sino-Thai Academic Center on Marine and Fishery Sciences, UMT - OUC Joint Academic Center for Marine Studies and Shandong-ASEAN Exchange and Cooperation Research Center. Besides, there are scholarships that encourage students from all over the world to study at OUC. More than 1,100 international students from 80 countries are studying here.

Minzu University of China (MUC) is an institution of higher learning with distinctive characteristics established by the Chinese Communist Party and the state to solve China's ethnic problems and train relevant ethnic minority cadres and senior professionals. The predecessor of MUC was the Yan'an Minzu Institute, established in 1941. After the founding of New China, with the central government's approval, the Central Institute for Nationalities was established in Beijing in 1951, with Mr. Ulanhu as the founding president who later became State Council Vice-Premier. In November 1993, it was renamed Minzu University of China. In 1999 and 2004, the university was included in the national-level "211 Project" and "985 Project". In 2002, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Beijing Municipal People's Government signed the "Agreement on Key Joint Construction of Minzu University of China," accelerating the pace of school reform and development. In 2017, it was included in the "Double First-class Initiative." MUC has two campuses in Beijing, one in Haidian District, the other in Fengtai District.

"University Opening" is one of the five major strategies for the university's development. MUC attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation and has established exchanges and cooperation with more than 200 universities and scientific research institutions in 46 countries and regions, including the University of California at Berkeley, Cambridge University, Oxford University, Leiden University in the Netherlands, Mahidol University in Thailand and 40 other world-class and first-class universities. It conducts Sino-foreign cooperative education with the National University of Cork in Ireland. Its "Splendid China, Charming Minda" brand has become a kind of "beautiful business card for Chinese culture." Each year, several famous and influential scholars visit the school to give lectures and exchanges in related subjects and fields. Moreover, there have been several hundred long-term and short-term international students recruited to study at MUC every year.
