EWIE and DLOU will jointly promote Sino-Thai Higher Education Collaboration

On the morning of November 5, the East & West Institute for International Education (EWIE) held an online meeting with Dalian Ocean University (DLOU) to have an in-depth discussion on promoting cooperation and exchange with Thai universities. They reached a consensus on developing joint Master's training programs with Thai universities, promoting scientific research cooperation and the construction of scientific research platform through teacher-student exchanges.

 

Mr. Jin Xiaojun, Vice-President of EWIE, presided over the meeting. Professor Zhang Guochen, Vice-President of DLOU, Professor Peng Xumei, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Professor Ding Jun, Dean of the School of Fisheries and Life Science, Professor Zhao Qiancheng, Dean of the School of Food Science and Engineering, and Associate Professor Zheng Peng, Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office attended the meeting. Ms. Yan Haixia, Vice-President of EWIE, Mr. Feng Jishang, Director of Project R&D of EWIE and Mr. Zhang Lei, Director of Project Cooperation of EWIE attended the meeting. Mr. E Xuewen, Secretary-General of ACTU was also invited to join the meeting.

Professor Zhang Guochen expressed his interest and hope to actively carry out exchanges and cooperation with Thai universities with the joint support and promotion of ACTU and EWIE. On behalf of President Wang Wei, Mr. Jin Xiaojun thanked the leaders and colleagues of DLOU for their good will and trust, and introduced the recent business development of EWIE. He expressed the hope that the two sides may come together in promoting collaboration with Thai universities through joint efforts. Mr. E Xuewen briefed the participants on the work of ACTU since the 3rd China-Thailand Higher Education Forum held in September, 2021 as well as its future plans. He especially emphasized the significance of promoting the establishment of professional committees of the alliance, and hoped that member institutions would play an active role in this regard. In addition, he conveyed the intention of cooperation with DLOU expressed by Prince of Songkla University and Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

In terms of promoting cooperation between DLOU and Thai universities, Professor Ding Jun, and Professor Zhao Qiancheng, introduced the current academic and research development of their schools respectively, and expressed the hope to jointly train Masters graduates with Thai universities, as well as their willingness to promote collaborative research projects through teacher and student exchanges. Ms. Yan Haixia said that since many Thai universities adopt the North American academic system, it will be possible for EWIE to help develop a “1 + 1 + 1 joint Master’s training model, and the 2 + 1 joint training may also be feasible. The Dual Degree Programs can be established on the basis of curricula docking and credit recognition. After the meeting, the two sides can formulate a preliminary project plan and propose a tripartite meeting of DLOU, EWIE and relevant Thai universities to promote the implementation of the project.

 

Both sides agreed that the meeting was productive and achieved the expected objectives.
